Wow!   What a nice morning!  It started out so calm and continued to be nice until about 11:45 a.m.!  I got lucky…… I paddled down to the boat ramp and unfortunately the snorkel boat was there.  I promised to avoid saying anything negative about that boat since the one crew member rescued the baby turtle a few days ago….. but…. today they had a kid screaming “turtle, turtle!!!” every five minutes causing the whole group to dash over there on top of the turtles!  It was really annoying.  I had seven turtles visit me including a baby turtle!  It was so beautiful.  I paddled back in nice conditions and went for a swim.  The water is so warm!  However the visibility in the water is still marginal.  The wind waited to come in today until almost noon.  Thank you wind!  I hope tomorrow is just as nice…..

The sunrise was beautiful!  The conditions were excellent…… I paddled down to the boat ramp.  It was so nice out on the water today!  I was disappointed that the snorkel boat was already there but I thought “oh well”…. and paddled over.  I usually have nothing good to say about that boat ….. but today I witnessed a hero in action!  There were about eight turtles that surfaced and the leader of the group announced that there was a baby turtle with a fishing hook in its fin.  Then she said it had fishing line wrapped around its head too and the turtle appeared to be having trouble swimming!  NOT GOOD!  Then she swam to the boat and yelled for some scissors and dove down accompanied by one of the young snorkelers.  A few minutes later the leader surfaced and announced that although she couldn’t get to the fish hook…. she was able to cut the tangled fish line and release the turtles flipper!  Yay!  She was my hero for the day!  I have to revisit the “somewhat” mean things I have said about that snorkel boat in the past….. hmmmm.  Anyway it was a good rescue story and then I paddled back in still nice conditions.  My swim was very enjoyable too…. except no turtles swimming today.  I only saw a big school of fish darting around underneath me.  I was grateful the wind waited to come in until after I was done swimming!  Please let me have another day like today for tomorrow……..

Nice!

It was a beautiful sunny morning!  I watched the sun come up over Haleakala.  It looked so perfect out on the water!  I walked and came back an hour or so later …. and the wind started being “iffy”.   I wanted to go out paddling anyway.  I headed south.  The water was choppy so when I got to the end of Kam 2…. I turned around.  I was glad I at least went out.  Swimming was nice too…… the visibility has improved ( not great…)….. but hopefully tomorrow will be better….

The day started out so calm….. but the wind came up early so it was a swim today.  I swam north against the wind and current….. and then let it toss me back!  The sunset was quite beautiful too!

Yippeeee!   It was a paddling day and I got to swim with a big turtle too!  The day was just beautiful….. but the ocean was not totally calm.  The wind was blowing from the south and I wasn’t trusting it very much.  I paddled down to Kam 3 and then turned around.  Just as I came in…. the wind got stronger but it still wasn’t blown out.  My swim was great, even though windy.   I swam south and then turned around.  The water clarity has improved!  I was almost back when a big turtle showed up in front of me.  I moved quickly to catch up with it.   I was able to get some photos and a video!  It was good to see a turtle!  I hope tomorrow is good too…..

It was beautiful today but windy off and on and there is a slight south swell causing the water visibility to be poor.  It ended up a backstroke kind of swim day.  The water is 81 degrees!  The clouds were an interesting mixture of cirrus and cummulus…… and the wind swirled them around but didn’t blow them away.  They created a gorgeous sunset!  The lifeguard told me the swell might be around for a couple more days.  Oh well….. it’s still beautiful!
