Beautiful Day!!

It was a peaceful start to the day with pastel colors reflecting on the water.   The water was very clear but a south wind was pushing against me.  Paddling was hard so I expected to turn around at the end of Kam 2…… but suddenly the wind took pity on me and backed off nicely!  It got so nice.   I made it down to the boat ramp after spotting my first turtle at Kam 3.  Four more turtles popped up too but they didn’t hang around.  It was really nice at the boat ramp!  It stayed nice until I got back but then the wind kicked up again.  I swam south, against the wind…. the water was so clear!  When I came in…. the wind backed off again.  Seems like it just couldn’t make up its mind…

Perfect Paddling!!

It was a peaceful sunrise sky this morning.  Perfect paddling today too!  I paddled down to the boat ramp and it was nice there but no sign of any turtles.  I paddled back in nice conditions and went by the rocks to look for turtles.  No turtles there either.   I wonder where they were hiding?  It got windy by the time I swam so I headed north.  It was a workout!  The way back was a breeze, though,  being pushed by the windy swells. I hope it’s this nice tomorrow!

Nice Day!!

It was a beautiful day!  The white caps were looming out pretty far but some wind was blowing from the south.  It was later than usual so I decided to stay close to home.  I was so happy to be out on the water.  There was so much talk about sharks at the beach today.  While I was on vacation….a woman was bitten by a shark down at Charley Young beach and apparently a surfer was critically wounded by a shark attack over on the north shore .  Then a beach friend who had been out on her kayak reported that a big tiger shark had swam under her kayak!  Hmmmm…… I still went Paddling and swam after.  I didn’t see any sharks.  But when I was swimming south…. a turtle appeared that was swimming north.  I turned around to swim with it!   It was eating some seaweed off the bottom of the ocean.  I swam with the turtle down past the lifeguard tower and then a turtle swimming south appeared.  The two turtles stopped…..looked at each other….. and then one went north and one went south!  I turned to swim with the second turtle.  It swam with me all the way down to the rocks and it let me rub its shell!  What a treat!  The water was pretty clear too……. I hope to get an earlier start tomorrow…..  it’s good to be home!

Baja Sunset

After days and days of vivid blue Baja skies…… the sky began to change.  Clouds rolled in and it looked like rain was coming.  The wind picked up too but it started to blow the cloud cover around.  Suddenly the sky changed into color and an amazing sunset emerged!  It was our last night in Loreto so it was a nice treat.  Unfortunately the mosquitoes were out too.  I got six bites to prove it!  It’s been a great trip!

Six Spotted Eagle Rays!!

Wow…. every morning  has been perfect paddling!  I am loving it too.  This morning I was accompanied by orange butterflies and I saw six Spotted Eagle Rays.  There were a few jumping fish too, but mostly just perfect paddling conditions.  After paddling and my walk ( where I was visited by a sea bird)….. I swam out to the flag rock and had fun snorkeling.  There were ten other snorkelers though….. but yesterday I had the place all to myself.  It’s fun to see familiar coral growing on the rocks and all the tropical fish.  Just a few more days to enjoy Mexico…..

Perfect Paddling!!

Wow…… another perfect day of paddling!  Yellow butterflies seem to be my regular companions out on the water here and I sit among a group of little yellow and black fish that congregate every morning out by the flag rock.  It’s so peaceful here….. and the most peaceful first thing in the morning.  I am really enjoying the tranquility!  Swimming and snorkeling are great too.  I see some similar fish here that are in Hawaii…… but also some different ones.  Just a few more days to enjoy Mexico and then home to Maui…..

Baja Boat Tour

It was an amazing boat tour of the islands and snorkeling!  We saw many birds and snorkeled at Isla Carmen, where we got to see a live Conch shell, Scorpion fish, starfish and sea cucumbers and lots of fish.  It was so beautiful!  This is an amazing place…..Loreto, Mexico……

What A Hike!

It was a crazy hike…… steep uphill and steep downhill ….. and we picked the hottest part of the day to do it.  The views were amazing and the snorkeling interesting!  We saw lots of tropical fish and purple sea stars clinging to rocks.  After snorkeling, the cave provided some much needed shade and I continued to search for shells.   I found so many shells!  Even puka shells!  Then after a drink of water….. we headed back up the steep hill.  It was best to just keep my eyes glued to my feet climbing…… looking up wasn’t an option!  We finally made it back and next up was a cold shower to cool off and lunch……. I love this place!
