Beautiful!

It was a beautiful Labor Day!  I couldn’t wait to get out on my board.  I headed south.  The conditions were good!  Down at the boat ramp I saw four turtles.  Two surfaced together and I cruised up between them.  Suddenly out popped Bumpy out of nowhere!  She must have come straight up from the bottom.  She was in a mood!  She popped up….. Looked at me and then went under the water…. Swimming under my board and coming up on the other side.  Then she did the same thing from that side!  It was like she was playing “hide and seek”!  One more smaller turtle surfaced and then all four turtles disappeared.  I waited for a while but then the wind came up from the south so I headed back.  The water got choppy but at least the wind was pushing me from behind!  My swim was nice too.  I saw lots of little Yellow Tangs, Unicorn fish and Humu Humu fish…. Then whike I swam back…. a turtle cruised by me!   That made five turtles for today….. It was a great day!

What a beautiful morning in Maui!  Hurricane Lester has passed by and we didn’t get much effect other than some clouds and wind.  We got lucky again!  I paddled down to the boat ramp in nice conditions and I was the only person there today.  The first FIVE turtles surfaced and quickly disappeared!  Boo!  I almost decided to leave when …BOOM….. the turtles started popping up everywhere I looked!  Turtle triangles…… Turtle lines….. turtles popping up two at a time!  It was fantastic to see nineteen turtles!  Even Bumpy showed up and wanted to play…… Surfacing right next to my board.  I swear this turtle knows me!  She put a flipper on my board like she wanted to come aboard!  Then she bumped me three times while I talked to her!   It was so funny!  There were so many turtles!  I didn’t want to leave.  Finally I paddled back and I cruised over to the rocks at Kam 2.  A turtle swam right to me and popped up!  Then two more turtles surfaced!  Surprisingly… there weren’t a bunch of tourists overwhelming them today so they came around to visit.  What a day! My swim was nice too.  I never would have guessed that this day was going to be this great!

Beautiful!

It was a beautiful….. But windy morning!  The white caps looming out in the distance were staying out there….. But the wind was blowing from the south making it choppy.  I paddled down to the end of Kam 2 and turned around.  I paddled north down to Cove Park but the wind  just wasn’t going to let up.  At least I got out there!  My swim was good too but the water visibility was marginal.  Tomorrow is the day that Hurricane Lester is supposed to pass by us…. So we will see what that brings us……

It was a really nice day for paddling!  With all the tropical storm activity…… I didn’t expect that.  Supposedly we are under a hurricane watch and wind advisory but so far……. I’m just seeing lots of clouds.  There is a lot more wind now but the morning was nice!  Between the wind advisory and the white caps looming out there….. I thought it wise to stay close to home.  I paddled down to the end of Kam 2 and then turned north.  I got down to Kalama Park and it was still nice.  The clouds were interesting today  but that made the water darker and visibility not as good.  The water is so warm right now! I did see fish down at the reef but visibility was reduced.  I hope there is paddling tomorrow…..
