It was not calm….. But nice enough!  There was wind blowing from the south but manageable.  I decided to paddle down to the boat ramp anyway….. Why not?  It wasn’t blown out so I figured I had some time.  The wind was actually just perfect…… It blew at me while I paddled which cooled me off!   That’s one benefit.  It was not calm at the boat ramp either….. But nice enough.   I spotted two turtles but nether was into socializing today.   I also saw one right under me when I first paddled  out too.  No turtles at the reef today though…..Where are they hiding?  That’s okay I enjoyed the fish …. Even lots of Humu Humu fish today.  Swimming has been great!

It was another beautiful day today even though it was a bit windy.  The wind forecast was for north east wind but this was definitely coming from the south.  I paddled into it hoping it might back off.  No such luck today!  By the time I got down to Kam 3…… It was clear that the wind was here to stay.  I turned around and paddled north.  The funny thing was that although the wind was blowing from the south….. the choppy swells were pushing from the north!   That created some interesting conditions.  I admit….. I was having fun paddling over the swells!  I paddled in closer to the rocks (as close as I dared with choppy water)  but no signs of turtles today.  I swam in beautiful clear water though!  I saw fish at the reef but no turtles.  I think the wind backed off for a total of twenty minutes all morning…..  Just a windy day but at least it kept the 91 degree temperature a little bit easier to handle…..and of course…. It was still beautiful!

Even though the day started out with some wind……. It turned out nice.  The water wasn’t totally calm but it was nice enough!  I headed down to the boat ramp.  Since there was some wind…… I had decided not to stay that long.  Luckily the turtles didn’t make me wait too long!  I was happy to have four turtles visit me!  I had the turtles all to myself today.  It stayed a bit windy paddling back but I cruised in closer to the rocks at Kam 2 to look for turtles.  No turtles there today.  The wind started to back off and it got pretty nice!  My swim was great and the water is so clear…..I saw some Unicorn fish and three Moorish Idols down at the reef!  I hope tomorrow is another nice day……..

It was another nice day with good conditions!  Not quite as calm as yesterday but still beautiful!  I paddled down to the boat ramp and I was the only one there.  I waited a little while for the turtles to come up. The first turtle was out farther so I paddled out.  All five of the turtles at the boat ramp came up at different times  so no getting surrounded today!  I paddled back in a little bit of a north wind but not bad.  I spotted a turtle on the surface as I was passing Kam 2.  It was close to the rocks like yesterday so I cruised in closer.  It was the only turtle I saw there today.  The wind backed off when I went swimming and the water was still pretty clear.  I watched a busy Moorish Idol pair getting something off the rocks to munch on and a group of five Trumpet fish swam by.  The wind stayed out far and didn’t start to come in until 11:00 a.m. again!  Nice!  It’s windy now though!

Wow wow wow!  The conditions could not have been nicer!  No wind until after 11:00 a.m.!  This is how we like it for sure.  The water was glassy and calm and paddling was great!  I paddled to the boat ramp and it was perfect there.  Two turtles surfaced and then that was it.  I paddled back and was passing into Kam 1…. When I spotted a turtle in closer to the rocks.  I cruised closer and it was a little baby turtle!  Then two more turtles surfaced and I was in a turtle triangle!  I got some photos and just hung out to enjoy the turtles.  Some tourists were coming over to see the turtles so I left.  It was so peaceful out on the water!  It was nice while I swam too with lots of fish to see down at the reef.  It was just the nicest day all around……. No more tropical storm!

It looks like Tropical Storm Howard may not be done with us……. Dark clouds in the direction of Makena and on the mountain.  Maybe more rain tonight…… As long as the morning is nice it’s fine by me!

Oh nice morning!  Yesterday the wind was acting crazy coming in and out and it rained last night.  Apparently remnants from Tropical storm Howard affecting us.  I didn’t think today would be a beach day but I was wrong!  It was much nicer than yesterday morning and not a white cap in sight.  I headed on my board down to the boat ramp and it was just beautiful out!  There was hardly anyone out so they must have thought the conditions would be messed up….. they missed out!  A turtle was waiting for me when I arrived at the boat ramp and so I paddled up to it.  Then two more turtles popped up and I was in a turtle triangle!  Soon two more turtles surfaced and I was in turtle heaven having the best time!  Then suddenly a jet ski and a power boat roared out of the boat ramp and scared off the turtles.  I really hate when that happens…… they are supposed to get out a ways before accelerating but who is monitoring it?   No one.  Oh well….. One more turtle surfaced after that which made six turtles for me this morning!  I paddled back in nice conditions and just as I came to the end of Kam 2……the wind came in behind me and soon it was crazy windy …. complete with white caps!  At least it blew me the rest of the way back but getting my board back up the beach and on my car was a different story.   Luckily a paddling friend helped me!  I swam the ” wind swim”  which is when I swim against the wind and then turn around and let the wind swells toss me around on the way back!  The water was so clear!  The wind was relentless from the south and began blowing sand around.  That was my cue that it was time to go home.  I wonder what tomorrow will be like?  We will see……

So it started out nice……… just a light wind blowing from the north.  I paddled down to Kam 3 and then the wind picked up.  Pretty soon I was paddling over choppy swells and it wasn’t letting up.  I turned around to paddle north.  Still choppy swells…. and now it was overcast making it dark.  I paddled back and just as I reached Kam 1…… the wind suddenly backed off !  I decided to keep paddling but five minutes later the wind came up again and the water got choppy.  I came in!  Then the wind backed off again and it was nice again.  I went swimming and it was still pretty nice until on the way back…. I started hearing wind in my snorkel.  I swam against the wind the rest of the way!  This fickle wind!  I heard through the grapevine that the weather could be changing this weekend so I am glad J got out in my board…… Still a beautiful Maui day!

The wind was pesky today.  It looked nice….. Then the wind came up……then it got decent again…… Then windy again!  I went to get my board three times and then just decided to swim!  The visibility was great!  I saw three BIG Uluas and tried to swim with them …… But they  swim really fast!  I swam down nearly to the end of Charley Young beach and turned around.  It was a good swim!  Even though I didn’t get to paddle today…… It was a beautiful day!  Hopefully tomorrow……
