Thursday’s show……

Amazing day out on the water!   Two great days in a row…… I must be dreaming……but I’m not!  It was a little breezy when I headed out but the wind backed off nicely.  I paddled to my favorite spot and a turtle was waiting for me!  That was only the beginning as more turtles started to surface.  I had them all to myself again!  Bumpy was there again and almost climbed onto my board!  It was so beautiful!  Before long I had counted nine lovely turtles and the last one was just a baby.  I love turtle days!  I took lots of pictures and then headed back.  It was calm and glassy the entire way back.  The wind only briefly threatened a couple of times before deciding to come in about 11:00 a.m.  It was getting hot so by then I wanted it to come in.  Swimming was great too and I saw some Moorish Idols today!  The fish are fun to watch.  Well…. Here’s hoping to yet another beautiful day tomorrow!  Please!

What a fantastic turtle day!  The conditions were perfect!  I paddled down to the boat ramp and a turtle was waiting for me.  Then the turtles started to pop up….. One by one…. then two at a time!  I was surrounded!  I took a bunch of pictures and Bumpy was there too!  Bumpy hung around for quite awhile.  I was in turtle heaven!  I counted ten turtles at the boat ramp and one just outside of Kam 2.  Eleven turtles for the day!  It stayed perfect all the way back and all the way through my swim.  I saw lots of little colorful fish down at the reef.  The water visibility was pretty good today too.  The wind didn’t start to come up until about 11:30!  What a perfect day!

Nice morning!  Not the calm ocean of yesterday but still really nice.  I paddled down to Kam 3 and then turned north.  I paddled down to the end of Charley Young beach and then came in.  I wasn’t sure if the wind was going to come in and didn’t want to get caught like the other day.  Well instead of coming in the wind backed off and it got perfect!  I swam down to the reef and watched the fish.  A big Puffer fish swam by and I followed it but they are not the friendly type so I left it alone!  When I got back from swimming…. The wind started to threaten again.  I wonder what tomorrow will be like?  Every day is a new adventure…..

Wow!  What a drastic change from yesterday!  So stormy yesterday but today was perfect.  The conditions were glassy and calm so paddling down to the boat ramp was a must.  It was just beautiful but no turtles in sight.  I stayed around for a while just soaking up the scenery but the turtles were obviously hanging out somewhere else!  That was okay….  I still thoroughly enjoyed myself and didn’t have to share it with anyone.  The conditions were great all the way back too.  Swimming was also nice except the water visibility wasn’t ideal.  I can’t figure out why it’s not very clear right now.  The water is really warm though….My guess is about 82 degrees! The day stayed nice until the wind came up in the afternoon ….. Just the way we like it.  Who knows what tomorrow will be like?  I know it will be beautiful….

What a change from yesterday.  About 7 a.m. the conditions looked much like yesterday …. Nice….. but by 8:30 a.m. it was a different story!  The sun was still out but the ocean looked stormy.  I went out on my board and then the wind backed off so I was hopeful.  I couldn’t ignore the major rain falling in the direction of Maalaea though and it was looking the same in the south too.  I took a chance.  The conditions were decent down to the boat ramp but I sensed an urgency to make my stay a short one.  No turtles today and I turned around to head back.  Just as I passed into Kam 2…. The wind picked up.  It wasn’t long before the white caps took over!  I knew it was going to be quite a workout. I just kept paddling while I was getting pummeled by wind swells and waves!   I begged the wind to back off long enough for me to get back….. But to no avail.  I just kept paddling trying to aim as much directly into the wind as possible.  It’s easier to cut through the wind that way.  It took me forever to get back to Kam 1!  The wind didn’t let up either and it was tricky getting my board up on my racks.  I had a strategy for swimming which was swim north into the wind and cruise back.  On the way back…. I noticed I wasn’t getting tossed as much and the wind had backed off again!  It stayed calm for a little while and then it was white caps again.  It never actually rained but it’s still rather stormy.  Who knows what tomorrow will be like……. Your guess is as good as mine….

Oh wow!   What a gorgeous morning here on Maui.  The wind cooperated today…… waiting until almost noon to come in!  Of course I paddled down to the boat ramp and was greeted by a turtle buddy!  The turtle floated by me for a few minutes, let me take a couple of photos and then disappeared.   It was my only turtle for the day but I’ll take it!  The conditions were just perfect down there and I had the place to myself.  I thoroughly enjoyed it too!  I paddled back in nice conditions and just didn’t want to go in because it was so nice.  Swimming was equally delightful too….. Clear water and so warm.  It was a joy to watch the fish scurrying around down at the reef!  I’m not sure the day could have been any more perfect……..lucky to live Maui!
