Wow!  What a nice day to be out on the water!  After a week of swells and less than perfect conditions……. The ocean delivered on a near perfect day!  According to the lifeguard a huge swell is expected by mid week so the next few days must be enjoyed! Of course I paddled down to the boat ramp and was greeted by two turtles…… Then a third popped up to pose for some photos…….I was so excited to see them!  I got out late so the snorkel boat was just packing it in and left.  That was lucky…. I had the place to myself!   It was so beautiful!  Paddling back was so peaceful.  I sure do miss paddling when the conditions aren’t good.  My swim was nice too even though the visibility is still not that great.  Maybe tomorrow!  I have to make good use of the next few days….

Well…. the swell was supposed to be backing off by today…..  But conditions were still pumping in some size-able shore break today.   I heard that a tourist broke their leg getting tossed by a wave today and the lifeguards had to perform CPR on someone down at Charley Young beach.  Quite a day!  By sunset the ocean looked to calming down some but maybe the tide was going out too.  It might take a while to clear up the sandy water but I’m looking forward to a nice calm day to go visit my turtles!  It sure was a nice sunset!

Finally!!!!!  A perfect paddling day!  Eight turtles and a whale breaching eight times and  tail slapping 34 times!  It was a welcome reprieve from the swell and waves.  As soon as I got down to the boat ramp…… Three turtles popped up!  Five more surfaced making it an eight turtle day!  I was SO glad to see them!  The whale was out pretty far….. But I could clearly see the full breaches and the tail slaps!  It was quite a show.  The wind has been light the past few days so some vog has crept in but it sure was a beautiful day!   Swimming was nice too with the water visibility being good for a change.  I’d love a few more days like today but I have heard another swell might be on its way…….oh well!

Wow! What a mixed bag of a day….. Shore break and strong currents this morning…… nice sunset…… and huge waves rolling in especially down at the reef!  This is my usual fun snorkeling spot….. But not right now!  Waves like this don’t happen often…. But when the swell is pumping just right this spot becomes surfer heaven!  They were making me really nervous taking off on the big lefts so close to the rocks!  I miss paddling!  I look forward to calm conditions returning and I wonder where the turtles are hiding out right now?  It’s winter and the whales are here!

It was a wild day from the start.  So stormy looking but no rain.  Just choppy seas, overcast, and shore break.  The clouds swallowed up the sun at sunset creating a rather gray sunset tonight.  Well it is Winter after all!  Big surf on the west side and north side…..
