So mellow!  I wish it would be this mellow in the morning….. I might have to start paddling in the evening!

It’s been a beautiful January so far!  The paddling conditions have not been that great though.  Between winter swell activity and currents and persistent shore break …… I’m still waiting for that perfect day!  The water visibility has improved so hopefully one morning soon I can get out on my board….

Oh wow what a gorgeous day!  Yesterday was crazy windy so I only swam but today……. PERFECT!  I couldn’t wait to get out there!  I enjoyed calm glassy conditions for paddling and headed straight down to the boat ramp.  Since its holiday time….. Maui has a ton of tourists …. So  there was a boat anchored at the boat ramp with snorkelers in the water.  I managed to visit with two turtles….. One big one that did pose for me to take its photo….. And one pretty small turtle.  The water was so calm!  A paddling friend showed up too so we chatted.  Another paddling friend came in as I went out and she said that way out there were a lot of whales.  That was farther out than I am comfortable going!  I’m hoping that the whales will come closer to shore soon.  It was so beautiful that it was hard to go in but I wanted to swim.  Just after I put my board up onto my racks……. My daughter, her husband and my two grand children arrived.  They are visiting from San Diego.  The grand children had a blast boogie boarding!  I took some photos of them and then headed out for my swim.  I hadn’t gone too far, when a big turtle appeared under me!  It was just meandering so we hung out for a while.   Then I proceeded with my swim down to the reef.  The water was not as clear down there but I saw a lot of fish anyway.  Swimming back I did not see the turtle so it must have moved on or swam out to sea.  It continued to be a perfect day at the beach!  It’s hard to believe that tomorrow starts a new year………

It was a long cold week in San Diego.  Not my favorite kind of weather and too many clothes!  Of course it was good to see family and friends at the holidays….. But I’m always glad to get back home to Maui!  My first day back did not disappoint either….. It was a gorgeous day.  I went paddling for about an hour and was so happy to be back out on the water on my board!  I didn’t see any turtles but it was okay….. I was out on the wster and it wasn’t cold!  I swam too and even though visibility wasn’t the greatest……I was thrilled to be back out swimming in warm refreshing water!  Holiday traveling is great but Im always happy to be back home where it’s warm!  Happy New Year!

Well….. there was a bit of a chill in the air this morning!  It was looking a bit stormy as well with some wind blowing…… But it was loopy swells rolling in that had me wondering what the wind had planned.  I paddled south and got to Kam 3, but those white caps out there and the loopy swells had me wondering!  I decided to paddle north and got down past Kalama Park but the water was still choppy so I turned around.  Just as I started back south….. The water started to smooth out!  By the time I got back to Kam 1….. The conditions were perfect!  What a difference!  Now I didn’t want to go in.  My swim was so perfect and the water so clear! It was still perfect when I left the beach too!

No…… There really aren’t any adequate words to describe how perfect it was today on Maui.  It just does not get any more perfect than it was today.  I went out paddling about 9:15 a.m. in perfect conditions.  I headed to the boat ramp in hopes of visiting turtles….. But the two turtles I saw popped up their heads and then dove under me.  The water was so clear I could see them swimming beneath me and then they disappeared.  A paddling friend showed up while I was there and we chatted for a while but no more turtles came up.  It was so perfect!  We paddled north and when we got to Kam 2…… my friend said it was going on 11:00 a.m.!  Time sure flies when it’s perfect!  It was hard to go in when it was so nice.  Swimming was equally calm, glassy and perfect!  I saw lots of fish down at the reef including a large number of Trumpet fish.  Swimming was a joy!  Tourists visiting  Maui this week are really lucky with these nice conditions.  I could stand another super perfect day tomorrow too!

Wow……. what a perfect day!  I didn’t even get to the beach until almost 10:00 a.m. and it was still perfect.  I couldn’t help myself and paddled down to the boat ramp even though it was so late!  It was so perfect!  Unfortunately the snorkel boat was already there with a group of people already in the water.  I stayed around for a little while but when I heard a young boy excitedly yelling to his Dad that he could see turtles hiding in the coral…… I was pretty certain the turtles wouldn’t be surfacing.  I thoroughly enjoyed paddling back in such perfect conditions though and when I swam…… a turtle suddenly appeared below me!  It swam with me all the way back.   What a great surprise!  I am loving these perfect days….. More please!

Well it sure was a nice day!  A north wind was blowing so I paddled south.  The water wasn’t exactly calm so by the time I got down to Kam 3….. I decided to turn around.   Then the wind changed direction and it was blowing from the south!  I paddled for about an hour and the only sea creatures I saw were jumping fish.  When I came in the wind was still blowing so I made the right call to come in.  I had a nice swim too!  The water is pretty clear right now.  About 11:00 a.m. the wind backed off and it got very nice!  The wind has been unpredictable lately.  I hope it’s nice tomorrow……
