Perfect!

Yes!

I’m starting to ask myself this question lately!  Can it get more perfect than this?  Eleven straight days of perfect paddling!  Clear, calm water and perfect conditions.  Of course I paddled down to the boat ramp!  I was having a great time with my turtles…….. Four turtles so far…… when “Aqua man” and a jet ski came roaring out of the boat ramp!  I’ve only seen these contraptions in Mexico…… But apparently the jet ski powers the boots and shoots the guy out of the water.  It is so noisy and disruptive that I’m sure the turtles couldn’t escape fast enough and I wanted to get away from it too!  The tranquility of the turtle morning shattered.  I sure hope this does not get popular here any time soon!   I paddled back in nice conditions just as perfect as yesterday.  My swim was great too with comfortable water temperature hovering around 78 degrees!  Visibility  is wonderful and I saw several types of Tangs as well as the same big Puffer fish I saw yesterday.  I could get used to perfect days like this every day!!!!

So calm!

It was just this perfect too!!!!   No wind…… clear sunny skies….. glassy conditions.   Perfect!  What a pleasure it was paddling down to the boat ramp.  I stayed there just enjoying the scenery for a while and not one turtle showed up!  There are days like that but it was so incredibly perfect……that I can’t imagine where they all were today.  I headed back and it was still perfect!  It was so nice that I didn’t want to go in.  Swimming was great too, though.  I followed around a big Puffer fish down by the reef!   What a perfect day!  Ten days of consecutive good paddling days…… Pinch me!

Perfect!

Nine days of paddling in a row and NINE TURTLES for the day!  I’m getting spoiled!  Not really……. this is actually more normal than its been for months.  The breeziness of the early morning gave way to perfect conditions by nine o’clock!  I couldn’t wait to get out.  Of course I headed straight for the boat ramp!  No one else was there and it was perfect!  The turtles started to surface and I was thrilled!  I got to sit between turtles and even was in a turtle triangle today.  It was turtle heaven!  Everything was great until the evil boat roared in and then made a circle around me creating a whirlpool of wake waves!  Thanks a lot!  I paddled back in nice conditions and had a great swim too.  I even enjoyed a fun little game of tag with the Spotted Eagle Ray that hangs out down at the reef!  So funny!  Will tomorrow be day #10 of paddling in a row?  I sure hope so!

Breezy, bumpy then nice!

It was another beautiful day on Maui today!  Eight days straight of paddling!  It was a breezy morning though……. The wind was blowing pretty good from the East causing bumpy conditions out on the water.  I headed south.  By the time I got to the end of Kam 2…… The wind was not letting up!  I decided to turn around and paddle north.  By the time I paddled to Cove Park…. the wind backed off and it got really nice!  I turned around and paddled south again.  Just as I was passing Charley Young Beach…. A big turtle popped up and startled me!  Then I ran into a paddling friend and paddled with her back to Kam 2.  It was really nice so I decided to go in and swim.  It was a great swim too….. So refreshing!  I’m really enjoying Fall right now!  It’s been so beautiful!

Oh nice!

I can’t belive it…….. Seven paddling days in a row!   It’s been a while since that happened!  It was a beautiful day but the ocean was not as calm as yesterday.  It was breezy and there were lumpy swells pushing from the south and the north.  The swells were competing and pushing in to each other….. I almost got pushed off of my board!  I decided to paddle down to the boat ramp anyway.  It was bumpy down there too …. But two turtles were waiting for me!  I paddled up between them.  One of the turtles was my buddy, Bumpy!  As usual Bumpy came right up to my board and popped his head up.  He posed several times for me and I had to apologize because I forgot my phone and couldn’t take any photos of him!   Then Bumpy dove under me and swam away.  I cruised over to the other turtle and could see it had a big tumor on its neck…… Well that made me sad.  I really don’t like to see that.  I wasn’t sure about the wind so I headed back.  At Kam 2 I ran into a paddling friend so we chatted for a few minutes.  The ocean stayed bumpy.  Everything calmed down about the time I went swimming.  It was a besutiful swim too!   Another besutiful day!  Maybe tomorrow too!

Hard to believe…….. But SIX perfect paddling days in a row this week!  And today the turtles showed up too!  It’s been a while now since I had a turtle day so I was more than happy to see ten turtles today!  It was perfect paddling down to the boat ramp and the first turtle was bobbing on the surface near shore.  Then another turtle surfaced and then there were two!

Just after the turtles stsrted to appear….. A paddling friend showed up and two more turtles surfaced.  I got to sit between them!  Then unfortunately the snorkel boat showed up too and I knew it wouldn’t be long before there would be tourists jumping in the water.  Sure enough, they were very interested in my turtles!  I call that boat the “unfriendly visitor” and I’m sure the turtles would agree.  Luckily the turtles stayed over by my friend and I….. Which was more of a swim for the tourists to take away from their tour boat.  Lucky us!  We enjoyed the perfect conditions and the turtles for quite a while and then headed back.  Some clouds moved in and it started to look stormy to the north of us.  My friend went in at Kam 2 and the wind stsrted to blow.  I paddled to Kam 1 as fast as I could but then the wind backed off and a turtle popped up right next to my board!  The turtle looked at me and I said hello to it…… Then it dove under my board and disappeared.  That was nine turtles at the boat ramp and one outside of Kam 1!

Raining north of us…

It never rained our way…and the sun came out again……. making it a very gorgeous day on Maui!  I’ll take more of this tomorrow please!
