Perfect paddling!

What a nice day!   Calm glassy conditions!  I paddled down to the boat ramp and it was so perfect!  No turtles today though…….. Not sure where they all were.  It was great to get back out on the water!  Swimming was just as nice too.  I hope it’s perfect tomorrow!!!

It was a great three weeks!  We had rain, thunder, lightning, flooded roads and nice weather too…… It was a mixed bag of adventures!  It wasn’t looking promising for paddling until our very last day when at Chileno Bay I met a Cabo fireman who had a stand up board at the beach and I gave him some pesos to use his board!  I paddled twice that day and it was beautiful!  I have lots of photos to share in coming posts so stay tuned!

I guess we are in for more windy conditions.  Tropical storm Niala is heading in our direction…… so many tropical storms this hurricane season!  Today the conditions were not as windy initially as yesterday but as soon as I paddled down to the end of Kam 2….. The wind picked up pushing from the south.  It was getting late so I decided to stay closer to home.  The bonus was that the wind gave me a push back past Kam 1.  It was pretty much just a paddling day and no turtles, but it was great to just get out on the water!

My swim was nice, too, but the wind continued to blow from the south.  I d be happier if the wind came up later…… Maybe tomorrow!

it wasn’t quite a ridiculously perfect day like yesterday……. But it was still pretty nice!  It had apparently been very glassy earlier but by the time I got out…… the wind had come up from the south messing that up.  It was still a beautiful day, though, and I paddled down to the boat ramp in search of turtles.  I waited around for awhile but no turtles appeared.  I don’t know where they all were today.  The wind never backed off either…..

and it stayed windy!  Luckily the wind gave me a push on my way back and when I went swimming……. I swam against the wind down to the reef.  The water is still very clear and super warm and I saw quite a few fish scurrying around today too.  The wind gave me a push back again! Tomorrow is another day so we will see what it will bring…..

Hi Bumpy!

Finally a super perfect day!  It is really “hit and miss” lately…… we never know what we are going to get in the way of conditions.  But today was spectacular!  It was just perfect all the way around…… nice paddling conditions…….. Turtles……. Sunny……. Warm water…… Good visibility…. Great swimming.  I couldn’t have ordered a more perfect day!  Even “Bumpy” showed up and hung out with me today and posed for several photos!  That’s Bumpy in the photo above…… What a ham!

I had had seven turtles down at the boat ramp all to myself!  Then on my way in a turtle appeared, so I paddled out again to hang around with it!  That made eight turtles for today!  Swimming was so nice too.  I saw more fish today than I have seen in weeks.  The water was very clear so I was able to get a better look at the reef and coral.  A lot of the smaller coral looks bleached but I was happy to see quite a few of the larger coral are still alive.  This warm water is wreaking havoc with the marine life!  Hopefully now that it’s Fall…… Things will start to normalize.  It sure was a great beach day!

Charley Young Beach

Eventhough it was a beautiful morning……. The ocean told a different story.  The conditions weren’t calm and there was surge and a high tide.  I got all ready to go out paddling and then decided to watch the ocean for a bit.  There was clearly some changes brewing.  I took a walk down to Charley Young Beach and took some photos.  The ocean was kicked up.  It was good conditions for boogie boarders today!  I decided to go for a swim and the lack of visibility confirmed the changing conditions.  I got slapped by a wave coming in too!  This sure has been a crazy year of ever changing conditions……. So we take it one day at a time……maybe tomorrow!

Bumpy!

I was late getting out today.  The wind was already blowing from the south making the water bumpy.  I decided to go out anyway because it’s always good to be out on the water!  Since it was late I decided to stay close to home.  I paddled down to the end of Kam 2 and saw something thrashing around in the water.  At first I was going to investigate….. But when whatever it was didn’t actually surface like a dolphin would….. I decided to paddle away as quickly as possible!  I wasn’t feeling like seeing a shark today!  I paddled down to Charley Young Beach and came in.  The wind backed off just as I went for my swim.  The water is so warm right now that it’s really not very refreshing when you come in.  Thank goodness the shower is cold!   I hope to get out earlier tomorrow morning!  It sure was a nice day today…….

Nice paddling!

Well the tsunami didn’t materialize but the warning affected people going to the beach today.  I didn’t mind…….I had the ocean pretty much to myself!  It was still loopy swells but not as much as yesterday.  The wind was up too….. Blowing from the south and although it caused some choppy conditions, it also cooled the air temperature which was nice.  I paddled down to the end of Kam 3 and then turned around.  It was such a joy just to be out on the water all by myself !  When I came in the wind backed off so my swim was perfect.  The water visibility was much improved from yesterday but still the usual fish were absent….. Kind of sad.  I’m glad the earthquake in Chile that prompted the tsunami watch didn’t affect much in Hawaii….. I did enjoy the deserted beach today though!
