More Vog!!

It was not windy this morning but there was some cane burning.  That mixed with some cloud cover and some variable winds created a not so friendly ocean.  I wasted no time getting out on my board.  It got so dark and choppy!   It seemed like no one else was out paddling too…… And that added to the ocean uncertainty.  I couldn’t seem to get my camera phone to work either and the wind kept pushing me south…… Frustrating!   I was amazed at how quickly the conditions changed.  Oh well….. It’s always good getting out on the water.  When I went swimming, the wster seemed so chilly.   The visibility wasn’t as good as yesterday but part of that was due to how dark the day had become.  Hopefully tomorrow is better…… It was just lightly raining so that might help….

Lucky Break!

Well I got a lucky break from the wind this morning!  I grabbed my opportunity and went out on my board!  It was really beautiful but I didn’t really trust the wind.  It has been so crazy windy lately.  I could see the white caps out there just waiting to roar in so I didn’t dare go far.  I paddled south first and ran into a paddling friend.  We paddled towards the end of Kam 2 and I told my friend I was turning around.  There were some rolling wind swells bumping from the north and I wondered when the wind would follow.  I paddled all the way down to Kalama Park as the white caps got closer and then turned around.  Two guys were out on kayaks and they told me they didn’t think the wind was coming in.  I told them to turn around and see the white caps behind them.  I don’t think they wanted to believe it.  I headed back to Kam 1 and just in time!  Just as I got in….  The wind started blowing.  I wasted no time getting my board up on my racks!  Just in time again!  By the time I went out for my swim, the wind was blowing crazy like yesterday.  I swam into the wind almost down to the end of Charley Young Beach and it was a workout!  The trip back was a breeze…… I just let the wind and ocean push me back.  It was pretty nice and the water was clear.  But I wonder what happened to the kayakers?   Who knows!  Next time I bet they keep a better watch on the white caps!

Still Windy!!

Well the wind is still with us.  It’s supposed to be windy through the weekend.  For a very short time the wind backed off but it didn’t last.  It was a beautiful day, though, and the water is very clear so I was able to swim.  This wind is a chilly wind too!  Maybe tomorrow the wind will take a break tomorrow long enough to go paddling….. We’ll see….

Nice Paddling!!

Wow!  Another nice paddling day!  I can’t belive I’ve been out on my board FIVE days in a row!  Supposedly the wind is going to change and possibly a swell….but it remains to be seen how it will affect the south shore.  Right now I’m just trying to enjoy  myself!  I headed south but the wind was blowing from the west making me work.  When the wind blows from the west it keeps pushing you towards the shore.  Regardless of whether you are paddling north or south……. It’s extra work!   I paddled to the end of Kam 2 and then turned north because a few white caps were splashing.  The wind stayed constant though….and it never got blown out.  Swimming was delightful as usual and so far….. The ocean water is still pretty clear.

I’d love to make it six days paddling in a row!  We will see….

Another Nice Day!!

Another beautiful day!  There was some wind blowing again from the south…. Not as much as yesterday.  I got out a little late too so I wasn’t sure what the wind had planned.   It was such a nice morning to be out on the water!  I paddled down to the end of Kam 2 and then headed straight out.  I was looking for whales!  Then I paddled down to Charley Young Beach and turned towards home base.  It got a little choppy on the way back so I got an extra workout!  By the time I went swimming the wind had backed off completely…. Much like yesterday.  Wow…. Four days in a row out paddling!  I hope tomorrow too…..

Gorgeous Day!

What a gorgeous day!  The cloud cover today was just beautiful.  There was some wind blowing from the south but it was still good.  I paddled down half way past Kam3 and then turned around.  The wind stayed constant and didn’t change.  On my way back from paddling the wind picked up a little and it got choppy but I didn’t care…. It was so beautiful.  I didn’t see a single turtle today…. maybe they were hiding out from the crazy windy conditions of yesterday.  By the time I went swimming, the wind had completely backed off and I enjoyed a delightful swim!  Visibility has been pretty good lately too.  I hope it’s this nice tomorrow!

WINDY!!!

Well the wind didn’t cooperate today!  Nope…. It stayed windy all morning and then roared in with a vengeance with a sea of white caps and wind waves.  I went out on my board anyway because I just needed to!  The wind was blowing in close to shore from the south……. But way out the wind was blowing from the north.  This caused competing choppy conditions and made me work really hard!  I headed south first…. Then turned north and paddled down to Kalama Park.  It was a bit crazy out on the water!  I saw a school of jumping fish outside of Cove Park!   No turtles today.  I paddled for almost an hour and then came in.  I really didn’t mind the workout!  By the time I swam….. The white caps and choppy sea had taken over.  I swam into the wind because I knew when I turned around I would get pushed back.  Coming back was a breeze!  Living on Maui you have to appreciate everything and I’m just trying to enjoy each day regardless of what it brings.  The ocean was wild and swimming in the wind gave me a different underwater visual.  Under the water I could see the wind swells pitching and feel each one bounce me around.  The water looked like it had glitter in it because it was so stirred up!  It was just a very windy day.  When I came in from swimming the wind then chased me up to the grass to dry off.  I wonder what tomorrow will bring?
